Thanks to a new initiative from Dubai Police, Dubai motorists can get up to 100% discount on accumulated Dubai traffic fines. On 15 December, 2018 H. H. Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, declared 2019 as the Year of Tolerance. The purpose is to highlight the UAE as a global capital for tolerance and its approach, since its creation, to be a bridge of communication between people of different cultures in a respectful environment that does not accept extremism and stresses upon the acceptance of one another.
This new initiative by Dubai police for traffic fine settlement in Dubai is in line with the year of tolerance and part of the overall drive towards increasing customer satisfaction and happiness levels in the UAE.
Launched under the directives of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, starting from February 2019, drivers can get up to a 100% reduction on the total accumulated existing traffic fines. The initiative applies to all private vehicles registered in the emirate of Dubai, on condition that the driver abides by traffic laws and regulations and does not commit any violations for a full calendar year.
The discount rates are as follows:
- Abide for 3 months and get 25% discount
- Abide for 6 months and get 50% discount
- Abide for 9 months and get 75% discount
- Abide for a year and get 100% discount
How Will This Affect You?
Let’s say if you are fined on Feb 1 and the value of accumulated traffic violations comes up as AED 10,000.You do not get another fine for 3 months from February 6 to April 6, a reduction of 25% will be carried out and you will pay AED 7,500 in April. If you choose to wait, after 6 months, you can pay AED 5,000 only, and if you did not break any traffic rules for a year then the entire traffic violation amount will be waived.
If your annual car registration comes up during the rest of the year, and you have managed to avoid getting any fines from February 6 until the registration date – you will be entitled for discounts depending on the time period.
Major General Mohammed Saif Al Zafeen, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Dubai Operations elaborated that the initiative only applies to privately owned vehicles and does not apply to vehicles registered with businesses, rental offices or companies, including public or private transport companies. Furthermore individuals who live outside the state for more than 3 consecutive months from the date of the traffic violation cannot benefit from this initiative.
The driver’s compliance with traffic laws and regulations will be calculated on 6 February 2019 with a (25%) reduction for every 3 months. If a driver commits traffic violence before the end of the period then he/she cannot claim benefit from the initiative, and the grace period will be recounted from the date of the new violation.
This new and one-of-its-kind initiative will help Dubai divers get discount on their traffic fines whilst encouraging them to drive more responsibly in the future.
